I completely disagree. You have misinterpreted Garrett.

Garrett describes AJAX (or Ajax, I don't really care which) as a technique for combining technologies which communicate asynchronously with the web server.

I don't believe the term is user-centric at all. It specifically describes the technologies used in order to create a rich user interface. The term "rich" is much more suitable as a user-centric term. Ajax specifically refers to asynchronous communication, not drag-and-drop, inline popups etc.

Your idea is like saying PHP should now be called Php, not as an acronym, to describe any website. Even static html websites can now be called Php just because the general public have a common misunderstanding.

[...] “AJAX” is passé. The term is Ajax now, and, no, it doesn’t stand for anything. The community has realized that Ajax does not necessarily mean JavaScript or XML; so, no more acronym. [...]

AJAX is an acronym for said approach.

Acronyms are capitalized!

AJAX
BASIC
CIA
DOS
...
NATO
...

The prevailing thoughts of idiots don't matter!

Who made Jesse Lord of the English language?

No matter definition a user gives to Jesse's concept, it is still an acronym!

[...] Just a simple question. I have seen people use both ways, some use Ajax and others use AJAX (all upper case). Michael Mahemoff writes why he chooses to use the former. What do you use and why ? Let me know. [...]
